From the Pastor
Do you ever get excited when you learn something new? One of my goals every week as I prepare to preach is to learn something new. To learn something that will open my eyes in new and exciting ways to the unsearchable riches that are in Christ.
This week, I came across a definition of humility that helped expand my understanding of this word in an exciting way. One of the Hebrew words for humility is the word anavah. It literally means to occupy your God-given space in this world, and it is strongly associated with the fear of the Lord.
I love this! The fear of the Lord puts us in our place. Compared to the Creator of the world we are nothing, yet we are created in His image and likeness. Understanding this creates the perfect balance. It is impossible to think too much of ourselves and too little of ourselves. As a result, we don’t take up too much space or too little space. Humility is taking up ALL of our God-given space that He has allowed us to have.
Life is not about me. Life is about living with an unshakeable humility that is focused on loving God and loving others. When you do, Christ will be glorified by the space you take up in this world, and you will be blessed.
By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life.
