From the Pastor

This morning we get to participate in the Lords Supper, a wonderful command that Jesus gave to the church. We also refer to this as communion. The word communion perfectly sums up why Jesus allowed His body to be broken and His blood to be shed. God wants a relationship with you, with me. Sin separates us from God, but at the cross Jesus paid our penalty and made a way for us to have fellowship/communion with God.
How close does Jesus want us to be to Him? In John 6 He called Himself the “Bread of Life” which means that we are nourished by Him; we survive because of Him; and we are satisfied and fulfilled only in Him. This morning as we eat the bread and drink the cup remember and proudly show that Jesus died to meet the greatest need that we have in our life – our need for Him!
Wow! Communion with God. Lord help us never get over what You did for us on the cross!

Pastor Mike Brown

From the Pastor

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I am so thankful for a day that honors and celebrates love. Love in a broken and imperfect world can be messy. I have no doubt that your marriage is far from perfect and that it needs to constantly be worked on. (Sign up for the Couples Refresher!) You are married to a sinner, someone with problems, someone you may not always like. Make no mistake about it, love in your marriage is worth fighting for. Your marriage is a gift from God, and He wants to do something incredible with your love for each other by showing the world a picture of Jesus and His love for them. Love God first, and He will give you a love for each other that is rewarding and inspiring.

Today, we also conclude the book of Acts! It has been an incredible journey. I hope your heart has caught fire with a passion to share Jesus and that your life will never be the same. The conclusion of this book is to preach Jesus. Preach Jesus compassionately, preach Jesus biblically, preach Jesus tirelessly, and preach Jesus completely. Do this consistently day after day, week after week, year after year, and you and I will make a difference for Christ! We are a part of history – His Story and there is no greater cause worth committing your life to! Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father but by Him.

Pastor Mike Brown

From the Pastor

How are you doing with the Acts Challenge?

As I get older I realize more and more how difficult it is to make significant changes in my life. Life is extremely busy and moves at an incredibly fast pace. Habits and routines are built into our daily lives. More often than not, week after week goes by, and we repeat the same things over and over again. The only way to change anything is to change it on purpose. To be extremely intentional about what you are doing and what you want to accomplish.

My concern and burden is for the lost people in our community. The people that are all around us everyday but more often than not we are oblivious too. It is great to be burdened about them. It is great to genuinely desire to make a contact or to have a conversation with someone. The reality is that a burden and a desire is simply not enough. You must determine to make a contact, and then do it. You must determine to have a conversation, pray that God will give you the opportunity, and then be prepared for the time that it will take.

I was reminded about this quote this week, and it hit me hard. “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” I believe that every person here who has experienced the saving power of the gospel has good intentions to share that same gospel with others. Good intentions are not enough. Action is required. Make a connection; have a conversation; pray for conversions!

From the Pastor

As we have moved along through the book of Acts, conviction has grown in my heart. Every incredible story, miracle, and transformation that has happened in this book has been the result of the gospel being preached. The Acts of Jesus were not completed with the completion of this book. New stories, miracles, and transformations have been taking place over the past 2,000 years all around the world as Jesus has continued to build His church, by His Spirit, through His followers.

I want to be a part of the story! I want West Florida Baptist Church to be a part of the story. The only way we are not is if we fail to preach the gospel. I know the gospel is being preached inside these walls but how well are we doing with preaching it outside these walls in our neighborhoods, workplaces, gyms, and our personal interactions in the community? How intentional are we with the gospel, the good news the world desperately needs to hear?

Will you accept the challenge? Will you determine with God’s help to be intentional with the gospel? Will you pray and believe that God will transform lives and grow His church as a result?

Pastor Mike Brown

From the Pastor

This morning I am beginning the conclusion of the book of Acts. After 36 messages and with only 3 more to go, there is not a more fitting way to conclude this book than with a challenge, the Acts Challenge.
