Day #25 | Behold 2028 Devotional

Feb 25, 2025

“And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.” - Matthew 14:20-21

I hate to admit it, but food has to be one of the very top thoughts on my mind the majority of the time. What am I going to enjoy at breakfast, what lunch can I grab in between tasks, and what meal can I pull together in thirty minutes flat for my family on the weeknights? It kind of rules the day and honestly, rules the entire mood.

This is why I love the Bible – how very real it is. In this passage Jesus Himself recognizes the

need to feed the people. The disciples were ready to close up shop. The day was coming to an

end, and the people needed food. Something they all should have taken care of themselves,

bemoaned the disciples.

But Jesus saw it differently. (Doesn’t He always!) He said there really is no need to send them

away. We have got plenty here. PLENTY?! All we have is this willing boy’s lunch, and it only

contains five loaves of bread and two fish.

Once again, Jesus saw more than what was given. He saw the people, their need; and He knew that He could fill it. At that moment the need was food, but what the people really needed was more time with the Savior. Wow! Jesus is looking to spend more time with the people, and the way He delivers on this miracle is through provision.

Before the doubting yet obedient disciples, the Lord performed one of the greatest miracles in

the New Testament. 5,000 men plus a whole lot of women and children were fed, and I

guarantee you, it was “made” in less than thirty minutes.

I want to live here. Here, where the Savior sees beyond what my eyes can contain. I am so

limited, yet He sees the whole miracle behind the little that I am able to give. He blesses it. He

breaks it. He multiplies it, and in the end, I am a first-hand witness of His goodness! My faith is

strengthened, my time with Him increases, and my love for His work only grows deeper.
