Day #16 | Behold 2028 Devotional
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” - 2 Corinthians 3:18
How can one possibly effectually communicate the transforming power of the Almighty God of
the universe? In this passage of scripture, we see a peek at how God moves within us through His Holy Spirit.
This verse spectacularly reminds us of the transformative power of God. The Israelites of the Old Testament could not be in God’s presence without being veiled, while we are invited to stand before God with an open face. The only way this is attainable, is through the perfect sacrifice and mediation of Christ.
During the subsistence of God’s perfect and holy law, it only brought condemnation upon us,
making our sinful nature manifest. Verse 15 depicts the figurative veil as being upon the hearts of the Jews when Moses is read. They could not see the truth of the redemption in Christ, reading with hardened hearts and seared consciences. In our unregenerate state, we were no different. We were repugnant, dead in our sins and trespasses, children of wrath by nature, like lost sheep not even aware we needed a shepherd. Thanks be to God for His perfect salvation in Christ Jesus He has so graciously endowed upon us. He removes the scales from our eyes, letting us now see His truth. This transforming power is undeniable in the Christians life.
What a privilege we have to be able to freely come before the throne of grace unveiled. James
4:8 says “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you”. Are you drawing near to God
through prayer and the reading of His word? We must base our life off the truth of God’s
infallible word, so that He may continue to transform the deepest parts of us. We are reminded
here that the more we behold the glory of Christ, the more we are made into conformity with Him.
The believer’s journey into Christ-likeness is progressive, not instantaneous, and is shaped by
continual beholding of Christ’s glory. This is the flawless sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit,
that we would be deeply convicted, and transformed to the image of Christ daily.
