“How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.” - 1 Corinthians 14:26

In 1 Corinthians 14:26, Paul addresses the gathering of believers, encouraging them to use their spiritual gifts for the edification of the church. He writes, “How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.” This verse highlights the purpose of Christian fellowship: to build up one another in faith.

Paul’s message here is clear: spiritual gifts are not meant to be used for self-glorification or individual benefit but for the collective growth and encouragement of the body of Christ. Each believer has something valuable to contribute—whether it’s through teaching, encouragement, prayer, or other gifts. These gifts should be exercised with love and humility, always aiming to strengthen the faith of others.

When we gather as a church, our hearts should be centered not on personal agendas, but on the mutual upbuilding of the community. In today’s context, this might look like sharing a word of encouragement, offering a prayer, or teaching from Scripture. It could also involve more practical acts of service, like helping someone in need or offering a listening ear.

As we reflect on this verse, let us ask ourselves: how am I using the gifts God has given me to edify others? Our spiritual gifts are not just for our benefit—they are meant to reflect God’s love and grace to the world, fostering unity and spiritual growth in the church.

May we come together with open hearts, ready to serve, encourage, and build up one another for the glory of God.
